Brewing Tips — The Perfect Cup of Coffee

  1. Whole Beans are Holy. We have to admit we’re partial to whole beans for our coffee- we think you will be too. Grinding fresh beans in a coffee grinder is simple, quick and produces a much more flavorful cup than ground coffee.
  2. Grind Those Beans To Perfection. Finding the right coffee grind is important, as the myriad of brewing methods available all require different grinds. Coffee ground too fine will be bitter, while using an overly coarse grind will give you a watery taste. To help you select the right grind, we’ve developed a brewing chart.
  3. Get Fresh with Your Water. The freshest, coldest, filtered water will do wonders for your coffee.
  4. Measure For Measure Have you ever stood over your coffee maker and wondered how much to use? The general rule is 1 level tablespoon of coffee per 6 ounces of brewing water. You may want to adjust these amounts based on taste.
  5. Feel the Heat. Your coffee brewer should heat to a temperature of 200 degrees F. Once your water has come to a boil, remove the carafe and wait 30-60 seconds before serving.

Storage Tips
Pura Vida Coffee is committed to providing you with fresh, great-tasting coffee. Each of our coffees is roasted to order and shipped in special bags with one-way valves, allowing the beans to “de-gas” and disallowing oxygen to access them. Whether you choose whole bean or ground, your coffee is best stored in an airtight container in a cool location. Ceramic or glass containers with rubber seals are our preference. We do not recommend storing coffee in the freezer or refrigerator, as the coffee can absorb moisture and odors.
